US golf giant signs US$1.5b deal

26/Jan/2005 Thanh NienA huge recreation complex, including a 36-hole golf course, will be built in the northern province of Quang Ninh by an American company and a Vietnamese partner according to an agreement signed in Hanoi January 26.

Dye Vietnam Limited, a subsidiary of US Andy Dye, one of the world's four largest golf course developers, and Quang Ninh-based Au Lac Ltd, has formed a joint venture with the name Ha Long Bay Ltd, operational for 70 years.

Eurocham signs deal with Vietnam Airlines

Le Manh Hung, general director of customs said that in April, the GDC will complete the customs modernisation scheme to submit to the prime minister for consideration and approval.

Government to empower provincial FDI licensing

26/Jan/2005 Thanh NienThe government may allocate limited power to provincial authorities to license some foreign direct investment projects in the first quarter of 2005, an investment official said January 26.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has decided on a plan which authorises the People's Committees of all cities and provinces under the direct management of the central government to license foreign-invested project worth less than US$40 million.

Ministry approves IPR protection association

24/Jan/2005 Thoi Bao Kinh Te VietnamThe establishment of an association to fight counterfeit goods and protect intellectual property rights of foreign invested enterprises in Vietnam has been approved by the Ministry of Interior.

The association, which will be administered by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, would have the role of detecting counterfeited goods, protection of trademarks and seek to settle IPR breaches via legal means.

Securities law to be submitted to NA in 2006

Southern official arrested over quota scam

25/Jan/2005 Thanh NienA high-ranking trade official in HCM City was arrested Monday January 24 for alleged involvement in last year's graft scandal which forced local textile companies to buy huge bribes for export quotas to the US.

Nguyen Cuong, 50, was the former director of the HCM City trade department before 2001. He is suspected of acting as a go-between in quota bribery deals. Currently, Cuong is deputy chief of the city's Industrial Park and Export Processing Zone Authority.
