Why IPR? Protection of intellectual property rights is an important chapter in the U.S. Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement and will also be important in Vietnam’s efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). A business environment with a strong regime for the protection of intellectual property rights serves to attract inward foreign investment and assist in the development of a vibrant domestic industry while encouraging research & development and innovation. For American companies in Vietnam and Vietnamese companies operating overseas, strong IPR protection and enforcement is vital for brand protection and continuing investment in R&D. To address the lack of information, resources and understanding about intellectual property rights in Vietnam, the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council looks forward to the establishment of a resource center for IPR Law in Vietnam's business hub. A section of the General Sciences Library in Ho Chi Minh City will be allocated and maintained specifically for books, journals, laws and other resources on intellectual property rights, protection and enforcement.
